Vida Essel-LampteyMr Johnson Aseidu Nketia, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), has said but for lack of strength on his party he would have carried a big stone from Accra to the Agbobomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV.
That he said was to tell the distinguished traditional leader that all his advice to the party had come to past, all though they paid no heed to it.
“….Togbe, if I have the strength to carry a big stone I would have brought it here,” the general Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Because you represent more than a prophet, everything you have said in the past has come to past. We want to urge you to be strong remaining steadfast and continue to speak the truth. We also learn now to accept your better truth”
Mr Asiedu Nketia made the comment while addressing the Asogli Traditional Council on Monday, October 18 monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
He was speaking during a Thank You Tour by the 2020 flag bearer and former President, John Dramani Mahama .
Asiedu Nketia speaks on Togbe Afede’s advice to NDC
Addressing the gathering of chiefs and people of the region, the NDC stalwart said the party sought Togbe Afede’s advice prior to the 2020 elections but was not pleased with his response and so paid no heed to it.
However, a general assessment conducted by the party on the outcome of the election had proven, the chief’s advice reflected the fact on the ground.
“Togbe before the 2016 elections we were in this place to seek the prayers and advice of Togbe Afede, he did, he offered his advice in a brutally frank manner, some of us were not happy at all when we were leaving this palace because every politician at times want to hear good news not bad news so we felt at that time that, has Togbe abandon his children, the way he has been advising us, now the advice is different”.
“When the 2016 elections came to past and we lost the Presidency, we realize the truth in the saying that those who want to help themselves will tell you what you want to hear, those who want to help you, will tell you the truth. When we did the review of the elections we realize Togbe was that reflecting the feelings of the people and the reality on the ground at that time and that it was a clarion call for us to amend some of our ways if we have to successes we didn’t take the advice kindly and we suffered the consequences,” he said.
Again, he revealed Togbe also gave a candid advised to the Electoral Commission prior to the 2020 election, an advised they also listened less, result of which he said saw close to 10 lives lost.
Mr Asiedu Nketia also said, the chief also gave similar advice to the National House of Chief and that also came to past.
