Vida Essel-Lamptey“By the reasons of that court it means that the recognized president of this country is Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and we all respect him as our president,” Mr John Dramani Mahama has said.
The 2020 flag bearer of the National democratic Congress(NDC) and former President made the comment in the Eastern Region on Tuesday, October 12, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
He made the comment while speaking to the Eastern Regional House of Chief during his Thank You Tour in the region.
According to him, although, the party disagrees with some of the processes which characterized the 2020 elections and subsequent events in the election petition, the fact still remain that Nana Addo was the country’s President.
….. we accepted the verdict but we disagree with a lot of things that took place in that court but in the interest and peace of the country we accepts. By the reasons of that court it means that the recognized president of this country is Nana Akufo-Addo and we all respect him as our president”
“…..And I will continue to say that and so even though we disagree with the processes of the elections. We disagree with and some of the processes of the court hearing, the reality is of the fact that he is our president”, he emphasized.
We will not recognize Akufo-Addo as President
It is no new news that the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) in 2020 rejected the outcome of the December 7 elections even before the Electoral Commission made its official declaration.
In sequence of press conferences, the party described the elections as flawed, rigged and unrepresentative of the people of Ghana.
“As a party, we have done extensive consultations and detailed analysis of the outcome of the elections as announced by Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and we have come to only one irresistible conclusion that it’s flawed discredited elections and therefore we reject without any reservation, we reject the presidential elections as announced by her and we also want to serve notice that the blatant effort to even deny us of parliamentary majority will be fiercely resisted. We know that the good people of Ghana gave us a mandate and that mandate included a parliamentary majority”.
“Let me state clearly and unequivocally, Notwithstanding the swearing-in, the NDC shall not recognize Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo until all the issues surrounding his flawed election are satisfactorily resolved,” the General Secretary of the Party Mr Asiedu Nketia told the media.
It again among it demands in the much publicized 2020 Election Petition pray the court to restrain the President, from carrying himself as such.
Until today, some members of the party say publicly that they would not accept Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the President of Ghana.
