Assin North ruling: NDC to file stay of execution

The Director of Communications of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Sammy Gyamfi has said lawyers of the National Democratic Congress will file a stay of execution at the Appeal Court against the Cape Coast Court ruling annulling the election of the Member of Parliament for the Assin North Constituency, Mr James Gyakye Quayson.

“…..I informed by the lawyers that a stay of execution to will be filed in the Court of Appeal in accordance with the law and all other things necessary to ensure that this judgment which in our view is a grieve or gross miscarriage of justices is  arrested will be done immediately”.

Mr Sammy Gyamfi made known the NDC’s decision on TV3 Midday News on Wednesday, July 28 monitored by GhanaPlus.com .

According to him, the party’s only hope in the case of the Assin North MP was the court and that they would do everything necessary within the precinct of the laws to ensure that justice was served the MP and in effect the party.

“The way forward is simple we as a law abiding party and member of parliament for Assin North, Hon James Gyakye Quayson are determined to use the laws of this country to ensure that justice is done in this matter so  our only hope lies in the laws of this country and that is what we will resort to under this circumstances”.

Cape Coast Court annuls James Quayson’s election as MP, orders fresh elections

A Cape Coast Court presided over by trial judge Justice Kwasi Boakye on Wednesday July 28, ruled for a fresh election to be held in the Assin North Constituency in absuit challenging the dual citizenship of the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr James Gyakye Quayson.

The suit was brought before the court by a private citizen, a mason and a resident of Assin Berekum, Mr Micheal Ankomah Nimfah.

Mr Ankomah Nimfah averred that  Mr Quayson at the time he filed his nomination to contest as the MP for the area was still holding onto his Canadian citizenship and failed to denounce his citizenship as required by law.
