Vida Essel-LampteyThe National 3rd Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Michael Omari-Waddie has cast doubt on the purported last will and testament of the Party’s former General Secretary, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Sir John published by the ForthEstate.
Speaking on Pan African TV’s Good Morning Africa on Tuesday, May 24, he said the date on the said will does not tally and quizzed if the late Sir John came back from his grave to write the will.
According to him, the late Forestry Commission boss died in the year 2020 while the will in question carries a 2021 date.
“Don’t believe everything you hear, let me repeat it again, don’t believe everything you hear, especially, when is coming from people in opposition and I will tell you why. People are talking about Sir John’s Will and Sir John’s properties; I have never sighted a will that is done after the death of an individual. I have never. Sir John dead COVID time, 2020, check the date on the will that they are discussing. Check the date, he came from the cemetery to come and write the will?. Sometimes people think we are fools and they will fool you and keep fooling you because they see you as such. The man died in 2020 the date on the will is 2021. Is it not true? So what are they talking about. If am lying just tell, what date do you see there and foolishly forget to get them to know when Sir John died. The man died and the will came after, was made the date on the will as confirmed 2021 and here we sit discussing this”, Chairman Omari-Waddie said.
“And then they have listed properties with date, acquisition date… that in the will i acquire this property on this day and date and that I bequeath that one to that person and that person. You see Ghana, I keep saying, if you are not careful you will hang yourself for nothing,” he added.
He made the comment while reacting to the public outcry following the release of portions of Sir John’s last will and testament in the Ghanaian media space.
He was speaking to the date in which the will was certified.
The will was certified on August 2, 2021.
However, a Member of the National Democratic Congress who was on the programme, Mr Prince Mahmoud educating the NPP leader on processes about will said the date of on which the will was certified was different from when the will was written.
“That date on the will is not the will was written, it was the date the will was certified. The date you have seen on the will is the date that the will was certified for probation because if you write a will you deposit it after your dead when it is read, the one who is to execute it will go for a true copy which will be endorsed that is the date that you have seen on it”.
Sir John will Achimota Forest lands to family
The Fourth Estate, a non-profit, public interest and accountability investigative journalism project of the Media Foundation for West Africa in its latest publication has revealed in what seem to be an excessive wealth acquired by the late politician, named some 75 properties willed to his children, sisters and their children.
The properties includes lands, cars, bank accounts with huge sums of monies, both home and abroad, houses and host of others
Sir John who until his death was the Chief Executive Officer of the Forest Commission of Ghana has willed some 5.5 acres of the Achimota Forest Reserve to named persons.
The development has sparked public agitations since details of the will was made public.
