Will you call EC to supervise your coming elections? – Nana Yaa Jantuah asked NDC

The General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah has asked if the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) will request for the supervision of the Electoral Commission(EC), during its upcoming elections.

The CPP stalwart asked the question while speaking on TV3 NewDay on Thursday, July 21, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

“Now they are going to have their elections are they going to call EC to come supervise the elections ? Are they going to do that?. They should come to IPAC, enough of everything.”

NDC boycott IPAC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), boycotted  IPAC, an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) to the Electoral Commission early last year and has since not returned.

The decision was in protest of the outcome of the 2020 elections which they say was rigged by the EC to favour the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“The party took this decision because of the lack of candor, odious duplicity, and open bias that was displayed by the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission in favor of the New Patriotic Party in the conduct of the 2020 general elections,” a statement issued by the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said at the press conference.

The party said going forward they would review their working relationship with the EC to safeguard future elections.

“The NDC has thoroughly examined the dubious role the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission played in the rigging of the 2020 general Elections. Moving forward, the party shall review its working relationship with the electoral management body and take appropriate steps to forestall the rigging of any future Elections in the country.” it added.

Come back to IPAC

However, speaking on the development, Ms Jantuah said it has become necessary for the NDC to return to IPAC and make known its contributions to discourse for the good and the growth of the country’s political and electoral landscape.

She was of the view, they can longer refuse to be part of the body and make comments about discussions made in the absence.

“I want to tell my sister that NDC should come to IPAC enough is enough. Enough is enough, they should come to IPAC because you can’t sit at the fence, on the bench and start talking about issues that are discuss over there”, Ms Jantuah said.

“Whatever made them angry it is two years and it should be over. it is time for them to be in IPAC to also be part of the discourse because you can’t sit somewhere and contribute to issues that have been discussed when you are not there. They should come to IPAC, it is important that they come to IPAC,” she added.
