Vida Essel-LampteyThe General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah has asked the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) to bury their grievances with the Electoral Commission of Ghana and return to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
According to her, it is time to let go of what ever their impasses is and return to to the political body tasked with the possibility to advice the Electoral Commission.
Nana Yaa Jantuah made the call on TV3 NewDay on Thursday, July 21, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
She noted the NDC can no longer sit on the fence and make comments about decisions made at IPAC in their absence and urged them as a matter of urgency and importance return.
“I want to tell my sister that NDC should come to IPAC, enough is enough. Enough is enough. They should come to IPAC because you can’t sit at the fence, on the bench and start talking about issues that are discuss over there,” Ms Jantuah said .
“Whatever made them angry, it is two years and it should be over. it is time for them to be in IPAC to also be part of the discourse because you can’t sit somewhere and contribute to issues that have been discussed when you are not there. They should come to IPAC, it is important that they come to IPAC,” she emphasized.
NDC Boycott IPAC
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), months after the 2020 elections announced its decision to boycott, an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to review the 2020 general elections.
The decision was in protest of the outcome of the 2020 elections which they say was rigged by the EC to favour the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“The party took this decision because of the the lack of candor, odious duplicity, and open bias that was displayed by the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission in favor of the New Patriotic Party in the conduct of the 2020 general elections,” a statement issued by the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said at the press conference.
The party said going forward they would review their working relationship with the EC to safeguard future elections.
“The NDC has thoroughly examined the dubious role the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission played in the rigging of the 2020 general Elections. Moving forward, the party shall review its working relationship with the electoral management body and take appropriate steps to forestall the rigging of any future Elections in the country.” it added.
