A month of August marked under the seal of Safety and Security
On Wednesday, CAF launched an online training workshop dedicated to Club Security and Safety Officers (SSO) from 12 leagues on the continent. The program will benefit 360 Premier League Clubs’ OSS from 12 CAF Member Associations, of which Senegal and Mauritania are the first participants.
Train 360 Club Safety and Security Officers (CSSO) from 12 countries by the end of the intervention program that runs throughout August, this is the objective that CAF has set itself by organizing a series of online workshops started this Wednesday.
Participants in this program – CSSOs from top division leagues as well as other leagues selected – are recommended by each Member Association (MA), based on 30 people selected by MA.
“The need for this intervention safety and security training workshops is to reach a wider audience and thus quickly change the safety and security culture across Africa by equipping the actual responsible officers on how to carry out their duties as safety and security officers in their respective clubs and leagues”, confided Dr Christian Emeruwa, Head of Safety and Security at CAF.
The 2020-21 season of CAF interclubs saw the participation of Senegalese representatives, specially Teungueth FC in the CAF TotalEnergies Champions League and ASC Jaraaf of Dakar in the CAF TotalEnergies Confederation Cup. Like Senegal, Mauritania has also qualified two clubs in African competitions, FC Nouadhibou and Tevra-Zeina, that have participated in the preliminary rounds of CAF interclubs.
Building on these performances and with a view to strengthening the capacities of their club staff, Senegal and Mauritania presented around thirty CSSOs each. They participate in the inaugural session of the two-day training started today to enrich their knowledge and be prepared for the next events.
In addition to Senegal and Mauritania, ten other countries selected by CAF and FIFA are concerned by the training, namely Senegal, Mauritania, Morocco, Benin, Cameroon, Tunisia, Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, and Ghana.
The workshop is led by CAF safety and security trainers with the prospects it will develop the capacity of trained safety and security officers on match day planning and operations.
