Asante Kotoko's plan for Mariano Barreto 'REVEALED'

Asante Kotoko have taken a decision on disgruntled head coach, Mariano Barreto, FMIG can report.

The Portuguese Coach has cut a disgruntled figure in the last few weeks often proving a querulous character in interviews.

Barreto, a former Ghana Coach was brought on board by the Nana Yaw Amponsah-led management as a substantive replacement for the sacked Maxwell Konadu.

He was tasked to deliver at least a title for the Porcupine Warriors while building a winsome side with an exciting brand of football.

Sadly, none of the above became possible as Kotoko’s season fell apart in the closing stages, eventually climaxing without a trophy.

With the latest happenings, calls have grown louder that Barreto be sacked and a new technical team constructed.

However, FMIG can report Asante Kotoko will not fire Mariano Barreto contrary to what fans desire.

Per our sources, the reason for sticking with Barreto is the club wants to get enough grounds to dismiss him without paying a hefty compensation due to their financial situation.

More so, the Kotoko management want to use Barreto as an Insurance cover in the upcoming season to buy them more time. Nana Yaw Amponsah is under increasing pressure to deliver and he knows too well any wrong move will do no good to his case.

He has been blamed for the wrongful and poorly timed dismissal of Maxwell Konadu while a section of Kotoko fans also hold him liable for their failed season.

In as much as the club has signed juicy contracts this has not reflected well in the club’s financial books and currently management is also at loggerheads with certain elements on the Kotoko board.

Amid the cacophony surrounding Kotoko, the management want to keep Barreto on board and use him as a scapegoat in the event the club’s fortunes remain impoverished come next season.

Sacrificing Barreto means, management will buy themselves time and be offered another shot at running affairs.
