Ex-Ghana defender Sarfo Gyamfi names three quality players in current Black Stars despite AFCON exit
Former Ghana international Sarfo Gyamfi has taken a swipe at the current Black Stars players, claiming only three players are of quality.
According to the former Kotoko star who was impressed with the performance of the Black Stars at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, Alexander Djiku and Baba Iddrisu are the only top-notch in the current team.
“I was not impressed with the performance of our players at the AFCON. I will suggest the team is built around local players because the foreign-based players are not hungry enough. Daniel Kofi Kyereh, Baba Iddrisu and Alexander Djiku are the only quality players I saw in the team”
The former towering guardsman noted there are better goalkeepers in the system than Jojo Wollacot and has therefore described him as class 4 goalie.
“Jojo Wollacot is a class 4 goalkeeper. He committed some blunders in our game against Gabon. There was too much fear in him throughout the tournament,” he told Kumasi-based Wontumi FM.
Ghana recorded their worse performance at the AFCON and their first exit in the group stage since 2006 after defeat to Comoros.
The four-time African Champions will have to wait until 2023 in the search of a fifth AFCON title.
