Nigerian players individual forms ahead Ghana clash

Because of the rivalry between the two countries, each match between Nigeria and Ghana is a major event. When these neighbors meet, it has always been a difficult duel because of the bragging rights at stake.

Ghana was eliminated in the first round of the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after losing a vital last group encounter 3-2 to debutants Comoros. Under the leadership of former international Eguavoen, the Eagles completed a clean sweep of three wins, including the opening against the Pharaohs of Egypt in the prelims, only to lose the crucial Round of 16 game 1-0 against Tunisia. As a result of both sides’ early exits from the recently ended AFCON, this clash is explosive.

Nigerian players are scoring important goals and creating a positive effect on their respective clubs. Odion Ighalo is based in Saudi Arabia, yet he has been a reliable scorer for his side. If Emmanuel Dennis of Watford is available to participate, he will be a valuable addition to the team as his club’s leading scorer. Moses Simon, a standout performer at the AFCON in January, has continued to shine in the colors of Nantes in France.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar both had a delayed return to form in their respective clubs, but they are now both scoring again. Both Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen were injured at the AFCON, but they are not only back, but they are scoring. Osimhen came in as a substitute in a recent Serie A encounter against Cagliari, but he found the goal with a bullet header to tie the game at 1-1 and save the match for his title-chasing club, Napoli.
