WCQ 2022: Boakye-Yiadom, Wakaso and three others return to Ghana squad

Beitar Jerusalem striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom, together with Reading full-back Andy Yiadom, Shenzen FC Midfielder Mubarak Wakaso, Goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen and Kotoko captain Abdul Ganiyu Ismail have all been recalled back to the Black Stars fold after missing out on last month’s call-up.

Boakye-Yiadom, 28, is returning to the squad after a three-year absence with his last outing coming in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The former Juventus and Red Star Belgrade striker has been called up by coach Milovan Rajevac for the doubleheader against Ethiopia and South Africa in a bid to solve the Black Stars’ goal-scoring problems.

Goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen and full-back Andy Yiadom also return to the team after missing out on the last month’s qualifiers due to injury.

China-based midfielder Mubarak Wakaso and Kotoko captain Abdul Ganiyu both make a return to the Black Stars after missing out on games against Zimbabwe.

The duo were initially named in the squad for October’s home and away tie against Zimbabwe but missed out on the final list that Coach Milovan Rajevac opted to work with.

The Black Stars will face Ethiopia and South Africa in their final two World Cup Qualifiers with the Black Stars needing victories to stand any chance of making it to the final round of World Cup Qualifiers.
