A Teacher and Five Others Identified Suspects in the Kafaba Lynched Scandal

Vida Essel-LampteyThe Ghana Police Service has identified a teacher and five others to have perpetrated the lynching to death of the 90-year-old woman at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region of Ghana.
The teacher who was only identified as Aliu, the police said committed the heinous crime with the five, namely, Hajia Filina; the priestess, Sanjo, Bumaye, Ashley, and Manafo.
Sanjo, information gathered said hosted the priestess, Hajia Filina who pronounced the late Aku Denteh a witch.
The Ghana Police Service made this known in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Supt Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman (Mrs), yesterday, July 26.
The suspects were believed to have fled the community after the incident.
“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh yesterday 25th July 2020 dispatched homicide experts from the National Police Headquarters to the Savannah Region to help search for the murderers of Madam Acura Denteh, aged 90 years who was beaten to death at Kafaba near Salaga in the East Gonjo District for allegedly being a witch,” the statement said.
The Police Administration in the statement condemned the incident adding that the service does not endorse mob justice in any form and assures the public that perpetrators of the heinous crime would be made to face the law.
They have, however, called on the general public with information on the whereabouts of the culprit to assist the police with the information.
A 90-Year-Old Woman lynched to Death over witchcraft allegations
The 90-year-old Akua Denteh was lynched to death by the people of Kafaba, a community in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region of Ghana on Thursday.
The woman was lynched over an allegation of witchcraft made by a priestess invited to exorcise witches from the community.
Akua Denteh had since been buried but the police are yet to make an arrest.
