Accountant General suspends No Ghana Card, No Salary directive

The Controller and Accountant General Department has suspended the no Ghana Card, no salary directive issues some days ago.

The Controller and Accountant General Department(CAGD) in a statement on October 12 said all public sectors who had not registered with the NIA would not be paid.

The statement signed by the Acting Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi  Kwaning Bosompem said the directive was to begin on December this year.

The directive, the statement sighted by GhanaPlus.com said was part of government effort to deliver speedy, secured and vilified services to the civil servant.

It was again to reduce the risk of undeserving claims and to assist the department develops a harmonized data base to facilitate the biometric and unique identification for all workers on government pay roll.

The command was however, did meet with several agitations by public sector workers.

They were of the view, the directive was only meant to deprive them of the rightful earnings.

The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers(NAGRAT), Mr Angel Carbonu reacting to the directive said it was wrong for government to take such a decision.

He described it as hash and only a means to deprive Ghanaian workers what was due them.

Others described the decision as insensitive and would resist it at all cost.

The Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram Constituency, Samuel Nartey George on his part said government cannot withhold salaries of workers who do not have the card.

However, a joint meeting between the Ministries of Employment and Labour Relations, Finance, and the Account General, had requested the CAGD to “port the names of public sector workers in their existing databases onto the NIA platform.

The department was subsequently; to inform the various institutions of any unregistered staff that may exist.”
