Breaking: Akufo-Addo revokes Adwoa Safo’s appointment as Gender Minister

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revoked the appointment of the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo with immediate effect.

A statement signed by the Director of Communication, Mr Eugene Arhin sighted by GhanaPlus.com said the decision is in accordance with article 81(a) of the 1992 Constitution.

“In accordance with article 81(a) of the Constitution, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revoked the appointment of the Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency with immediate effect”.

Article 81(a) of the 1992 Constitution reads “The office of a Minister of State or Deputy Minister shall become vacant if his appointment is revoked by the President”.

The statement indicated the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Ms Cecelia Dapaah will continue to act as caretaker Minister for the Ministry until a substantive minister is appointed.

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has revoked the appointment of the Minister for Gender, children and Social Protection, Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo with immediate effect. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency with immediate effect.

The news comes in amidst several calls for the Minister to be relieved of her post following several month of absent from her duties as an MP and also a minister.

Adwoa Safo granted leave of absent by President Akufo-Addo

Ms Adwoa Safo was granted a leave of absent  October last year and has since not return to her duties.

A statement from the Presidency dated October, 6 and signed by the Director of the Communications, Mr Eugene Arhin said, Ms Adwoa Safo sought a leave of absence for personal reasons.

 “The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has extended the leave of absence for the Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, MP for Dome Kwabenya which was to have ended on August 31. The Minster sought leave of absence for personal reasons”.

“In her absence and until further notice, President Akufo Addo has directed the Minister of Sanitation and water resources, Cecelia Abena Dapaah to act as caretaker Minster for the Children and Social Protection,” the statement said.

Dome Kwabenya MP appointed Gender Minister by Akufo-Addo

She was appointed two years ago to head the country’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection by the President.

Prior to that, he served as the Minister for Procurement and also Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament during the President’s first term in office.
