'Peeved' Asante Kotoko fans charge on National Sports Authority

A supporters group of Asante Kotoko has let their frustrations and disappointment known to the National Sports Authority for the delay in renovation works at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.

The stadium has been closed down for over a year due to renovation works that were expected to last for about six months.

The unfortunate development led to teams who use the facility having to find alternatives. Asante Kotoko, a user of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium had to then settle on the Accra Sports Stadium and eventually the Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi as home venues for the 2020-21 Ghana Football seaosn.

After a very difficult season ended without silverware, management of the club alongside some fans have attributed their fate to having had to play home away from home throughout the period.

As the season has ended and a new one beckons, fans have now directed their attention towards exerting more pressure on The Sports Authority to speed up works ongoing at the Baba Yara Stadium.

A supporters group by name ‘Kumasi Asante Kotoko Awareness Group’ delivered a free-spoken message to the NSA to wrap up works and stop giving unfulfilled timelines.

In a Twitter Post, the Group said:

National Sports Authority, Good afternoon.

The GFA has fixed October 29th 2021 as the start date for the next football calendar.

Last year, due to your lasɛ lasɛ saaa @AsanteKotoko_SC played in Accra and Obuasi.

You have some 2 mths to clean up babayara.

Do it fast. Yooo https://t.co/42eJhzG7go

Some miffed Kotoko fans who reacted to the tweet also poured out their frustrations towards the NSA.

The NSA had initially set March 2021 as a deadline date to complete works on the Baba Yara stadium. However they kept communicating different dates and now there is a dead silence on when exactly the facility will be ready.

Amid the quiet, Kotoko fans are growing impatient and are eagerly pushing for the facility to be ready for use when the new season commences.
