Kingkong is my real name – Agbeko

Vida Essel-LampteyGhanaian professional boxer and two-time former bantamweight world champion, Joseph Kingkong Agbeko has said contrary to public knowledge that Kingkong is his nick name; the name was given to him by his parent.
Speaking on TV3 NewDay on Friday, March 17 monitored by GhanaPlus.com he said “Kingkong is my real name”.
According to him, his parent named him Kingkong Agbeko but he named himself Joseph when he realize all of his friends had English names.
The renowned professional boxer also revealed it was actually the name that pushed him into boxing adding he was born to be a boxer.
He made the revelation while speaking to the media house about an event to be held in his honour on Saturday March 19, at the Accra International Conference Center.
Speaking about the event he said, the intent to honour him alone is enough celebration for him and called on all and sundry to come in their numbers and celebrate with him.

Kingkong Agbeko shot to fame on September 29, 2007 when he dethroned Central America’s Luis Alberto to become the new IBF bantamweight titleholder .
He has since won many laurels both home and abroad notably, WBO Africa bantamweight title, IBO bantamweight title, IBF bantamweight title, Commonwealth bantamweight title among others.
Agbeko currently boast of 38 wins with 28 knockouts and10 by decision and lost five (5) others in his over a decade career in boxing.
