Ghanaians on social media are soliciting for financial support to enable a young lady diagnosed with cancer undergo chemo therapy and surgery.

The 18year old mother of one, only identified as Anita is battling with the global disease which is celebrated in October annually to create awareness.

Her right breast has totally been taken over by the disease making life unbearable for her and her family.

Narrating her story to Metro TV in video sighted by GhanaPlus.com she said she detected a boil on her breast one year on after having her first child.

She noted a subsequent visit to the hospital revealed it was cancer, however, was not able to raise the ₵900 required for medication on time to begin treatment.

The medication, she said was to taken three time amount to a total of ₵27,000.

Aside the medication, she revealed she was also to raise some amount to have surgery to remove the cancerous breast completely.

With her present state, Anita requires some ₵40,000 to begin chemo therapy and surgery.

Her teary mother pleads with the public for support.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is said to be the most common cancer in women worldwide.

Globally, some 1.7 million new cases and 522 000 deaths are recorded annually according to 2012 Globocan report.

Doctors say breast cancer can be cured if detected early.

It is for this reason that October every year have been declare Breast Cancer Awareness Month to create awareness about the disease.

It is celebrated in countries across the world including Ghana to helps increase attention, support for awareness, early diagnosis, treatment as well as palliative care for women facing this disease.
